Thanks for this...showing me how gently encourage paying readers. Love the Inner Circle idea...and congrats on writing a book! That’s huge! I work with local authors in my town; know what it takes! I will pay asa I can, dear friend...paying off medical/dental debt is almost done!
The Inner Circle idea is fantastic! My substack went over 300 subscribers last year and 15 paid since I turned on the option in September. It's so gratifying to know that others find value in your work! I plan to subscribe, but need to balance the budget first. $80 is steeper than average?
I've had my paid option on since I started. I only charge $50 a month. At some point I will up it but not yet., I am working on some ideas to add "value" to paying subscribers, but I have been lucky to find a few folks willing to pay with all posts offered free.
You're book sounds interesting and love the idea of using the paywall to get book feedback, it is something I have thought of doing also with a non-fiction manuscript I have.
Here's to 100, 200, 300 and on more free subscribers and to starting to get paid subscribers as well!
You are inspiring Pamela. 🤍 It feels “weird” to me to have the paid option turned on, but I wonder how much of it is really about self-doubt. It felt like a big step to view what I’m doing as being valuable enough to offer it.
I felt a little weird about turning the paid option on too but it has shown me that some folks find value in my work here. Just a few, but I good with that. And you should be good with that too, your work here is of value. Your subscribers will continue to grow.

Thanks Joan. You are so kind.

Mine is $100...Substack takes quite a portion. Many writers only ask $50 annually. So $80 is average I’d say.
