9 Midlife Authors You Should Follow
A roundup of Substacks for those of us in the BETTER HALF of life
Looking for advice, solidarity, and humor on the other side of 50? Today I’m sharing the love and pointing you towards some Mid-Life authors I enjoy. Check them out and subscribe:
by Jo Linney“A range of pondering rambles, about growing old, being proud of being old, and negotiating an ever-changing world.”
Jo’s authenticity will draw you in, her humor will keep you coming back.
by Pamela (Pamela’s last name remains a mystery. Maybe, she’ll enlighten us in the comments?)“A newsletter about life at 60+, some reflection and a bit of humor. Thanks for reading! Keep smiling!”
by Patricia Cusak“I write weekly about positive ageing, healthy diet, exercise, managing stress, anything that affects us as we age from 45. Also, other subjects that interest me: books, art, music, film but mostly healthy ageing-related issues.”
by Hannah Anstee“Personal essays and travelogues. Happy Valley meets Eat Pray Love. Neurodivergent. Ex-Journo, ex-Life Coach, ex-everything. Quitting is power. Unapologetically feminist.”
I find Hannah’s willingness to go into the world and into aging with a positive and realistic mindset to be enthralling.
by Catherine Palmer“Anti-heroes are complex and imperfect, but we root for them anyway. This newsletter is about reinvention, resilience, and rebellion for midlife women.”
Catherine is refreshingly honest in the way she tackles real-life issues we bump up against in the second half of life>
by Donna McArthur“Exploring the realm of middle age from the lens of growth, spirituality & well-being.”
Donna leads her readers through life in this second half with grace and honesty. She has a knack for helping us to grow into who we’re meant to be. To uncover what lies beneath.
by Kim France“Style advice, shopping picks, pop culture, and opinion for over-40 women and the over-40-curious, from former Sassy staffer and Lucky Magazine founding editor in cheif Kim France.”
I think it’s always fun to get clothing inspiration. Especially when it’s tailored to women over 40. Kim shares lots of links in her posts so you can easily purchase her recommendations.
by Jami Attenberg“The 52 Project starts on my 52nd birthday (November 1, Scorpio season, baby), and I will post once a week for a year.
Look, I’m not saying I’m having an existential crisis but I have SOME QUESTIONS. The 52 Project will discuss matters of aging as it relates to being a woman, and how that infiltrates health, culture, the internet, friendship, family, and more. I have been itching to write about these topics but felt like there wasn’t room for it on my existing newsletter or even on social media. Well, I’m making room for it here. For me and for you.”
Jami’s weekly newsletter covers a range of topics all related to those of us on the other side of 50. She has a new book coming out too!
& of couse mine :)
by Kathi Roach“A space for all of us over 50. Are you passionate + curious about aging well...physically, mentally, and spiritually? Together, we'll dive into the magical + the miserable and everything in between as we aim to live well on the other side of 50.”
I dreaded turning 50 but once I got here, I found I’d been sold a lie. It turns out I love mid-life and I have a feeling I’m not alone. Let’s change the narrative. We’re shining a light on all that’s good in this second half of life. AG+G is full of humor, real life, and interviews with fascinating folks on the other side of 50.
