I’m many years postmenopausal but when I was in the thick of the transition, I imagined I was surfing the wave. (My flashes were waves that started in my chest then rose like the tide.) The visualization didn’t make me feel cooler necessarily but let me ride them out. As the saying goes, “When a wave comes, go deep.” Works for all kinds of circumstances. 😉

I believe that menopause was considered shameful and a sign of passing into old age, thus becoming “undesirable” to men. And of women’s health care in general, lack of serious attention from the medical community. I’m so glad you wrote this, Kathi. Just the right tone: humorous and exasperated. We need more essays like this!❤️

Hahahaha.

Can I recommend worrying about how well you age on the inside. Yes that does have a double meaning. Let the outside take care of itself. I’m not suggesting to stop bathing. I just mean that some of the most beautiful people are not physically attractive at all.
