Wow! You did well. Congratulations on your first month with such excellent results. I'm a regular person, too, and started with Substack six months ago with no subscribers. It's been a slow slog but I'm not posting as much as you. Maybe that's the secret. Anyway, here's to your continued success on Substack.
Thank you very much Kate. I'm laughing at your comment, but I also know exactly what you mean. If feels like swimming in the dark those first few weeks. Best of luck to you. Keep writing! Xo
Very nicely done! Been thinking , occasionally, about writing on Substack.. but at 84, mostly concerned about twice a week committment and usual fears and anxiety. Your piece has helped me think it thru more clearly.
You can do it Sue! I’m almost 80 and kathi’s steps, tips are perfect for beginners. I make no commitment, says on my profile when/whatever I want! 😊 it’s been once a week so far ...no set schedule. Readers don’t want it too often.
Sue, first of all, I am inspired by you!! Wow, 84 and still writing. I hope to be just like you.
You don't need to post twice a week. There's no formula. I think the key is in being consistent. This way those who read your words, know what to expect. You could start with once a week, or even once every other week...it really doesn't matter, just communicate how often it'll be so your people aren't left wondering. I'm finding Substack to be very refreshing. So far, it's been joyful for me to write and read and interact with other writers here. If that's all I end up getting out of this experience, it'll have been worth it.
Absolutely perfect advice... I’ve been there and am still learning. All the buttons to click! 🤪This is so helpful and reassuring. I need to get a rhythm, redo my about page. Thanks for the nudge!
Thank you + I agree. I see so many articles about "how I got my first 1,000 subscribers" and as I read I find out they have published multiple books or have a huge social media following, it's discouraging. Not that I wish anyone ill, but as a regular person, I certainly can't replicate it.

Thank you Patricia! Best of luck to you here on Substack. Keep writing + posting. :)
Congrats on your 1st Monthiversary!
I’m not even two weeks into my Substack journey, so already you’re looking and sounding like the expert from where I am. 😂👏👏👏

Thanks Joan. I think it's about showing up and doing it as we learn.
Thank you, Kathi! You are my hero.
Aww that is so kind of you to say Mary. xo

Cheers to regular people finding our small ways, too 🤣
