I'm in. Just returned from Christmas in the Caribbean where happy hours on the beach are from 9-11 ...AM! Started my booze break on the day I flew home (2 days ago) ans plan to continue through January. Like you, I'm sober curious and ready to break habits (I obtained from my most recent job, where extreme stress was the norm and every Slack message was punctuated with wine emojis). My favorite alt beverages are ginger forward: Kombucha and Virgin Mules. Let's do this!
Thanks for sharing Catherine. I love the idea of a virgin mule. My last job used Slack too. I'm still recovering from the daily onslaught of "work texts." LOL It was a beautiful day when I resigned and could delete slack. Looking forward to journeying soberly through January with you.
I am going on five years sober and honestly can't see myself going back. I bought into the "mommy wine" culture. What a lie! I realized I didn't want my kids to think of me "needing" wine to parent. What message was I sending to them? Strength came to me in sobriety and knowing my kids are the reason I do not want to drink.
Cheers to that, Kathi! I'll be 4 years sober this February. I never hit a rock bottom and, prior to that, was only drinking a so-called moderate amount of wine with dinner (that's it). Going completely alcohol free was the most powerful, transformative choice I've made as an adult. Everything else changed as a result. Hard recommend!
I stopped drinking 2 1/2 years ago, after thinking about my relationship with alcohol, why we choose to drink varies, I read the unexpected joy of being sober, which is an interesting read. I guess I fit in the sober curious category. These days I do occasionally have one small drink in the evening. I think taking a break is really useful for thinking about why we drink, and whether that is 'who we want to be'.
I was in this situation years ago Kathi. I loved my glass of wine and everything about wine culture except how it was stealing my energy and well-being. I ignored the whole thing for years because I enjoyed the wine and couldn't imagine life without it - until it began to take more than it would give and I knew something had to change.
When I quit drinking and spoke up about it many people were surprised, it was before sober-curious was a thing. I am thrilled to see how much sobriety has hit main stream culture and is growing in leaps and bounds.

Thanks for sharing that Joelle. You are so right, it’s important to find out what’s driving the behavior. 🤍
