AG+G Weekly Wrap-UP #4
McDreamy, Meg Ryan, The Golden Batchelor, + Dolly Parton...aging inspiration for you!!
Have a Gentle Holiday Season
As we enter into December, my hope for you is to have a gentle holiday season. This gentleness will look different for each of us. Your soul may be filled by doing all of the traditional holiday things, or the opposite may be true and you may find it to be draining. Do what feels right for you. We are all unique. Being gentle with ourselves will lead to being gentle with others. Regardless of the level of Holiday activities you add into your month, remember to hug your own soul first. Savor the second cup of coffee by the fire, walk in the snow, laugh with a child, look into your loved ones eyes. These are all free and all gentle and all for you. Happy Holiday season!

Meg Ryan
62 year old Meg Ryan is back! Her newest movie is called What Happens Later starring Meg Ryan and David Duchovney. For those of us who grew up with Meg + her movies this is wonderful news. When Harry Met Sally is one of my all time favorite movies. I also loved You’ve Got Mail & Sleepless in Seattle. They all give me a feel good vibe when I rewatch them. I am looking forward to watching this movie.
Have you seen the movie yet?

Gerry chose Theresa! These two honestly seemed like the best match from the very beginning. They seem to share the same values and also experiences. I could see them getting married and being each other’s best friends for the rest of their lives. I’ll be tuning back in January 4 to watch their wedding.
This show inspired me. Not the format. In fact, I dislike the format. It’s creepy seeing one guy date more than one woman. I’ve never watched a season of the Bachelor because of it. This season I tuned in because I wanted to see older people in a positive light, finding love. I’ve been inspired seeing so many beautiful, confident, women over 60. These whole, complete women were incredible. Joan, one of the contestants, said the world makes you feel invisible when you get to 60, she wanted to show everyone that isn’t the case. If you haven’t watched it, I suggest streaming it on Hulu. I am hopeful for a Golden Bachelor 2 or Golden Bachelorette. I’d love to see one of these women find love. I’m personally rooting for Joan to be the first Golden Bachelorette. I’d also love to see a Golden Girls type reality show featuring Susan, Kathy, April, + Nancy. Those 4 could would be so fun to watch.
Here’s to Gerry + Theresa. May this second love last for each of you. And here’s to more shows with older leads.
Subscriber Essay of the Week:
This beautiful essay about life after losing a spouse by
was my favorite thing I read this week. Mary is a writer’s writer, check her out.A Book with a Middle Aged Main Character:
Elin Hildenbrand’s Golden Girl
I love Elin’s novels. Most of which are set in the dreamy town of Nantucket. She does an excellent job of crafting stories around middle aged main characters and Golden Girl doesn’t disappoint. This is a quick read and would make a great escape for your Holiday season.
(I don’t make any money from the link, just making life a little easier for you. :)
Here’s what Amazon has to say about it:
"On a perfect June day, Vivian Howe, author of thirteen beach novels and mother of three nearly grown children, is killed in a hit-and-run car accident while jogging near her home on Nantucket. She ascends to the Beyond where she's assigned to a Person named Martha, who allows Vivi to watch what happens below for one last summer. Vivi also is granted three “nudges” to change the outcome of events on earth, and with her daughter Willa on her third miscarriage, Carson partying until all hours, and Leo currently “off again” with his high-maintenance girlfriend, she’ll have to think carefully where to use them.
From the Beyond, Vivi watches “The Chief” Ed Kapenash investigate her death, but her greatest worry is her final book, which contains a secret from her own youth that could be disastrous for her reputation. But when hidden truths come to light, Vivi’s family will have to sort out their past and present mistakes—with or without a nudge of help from above—while Vivi finally lets them grow without her.
With all of Elin’s trademark beach scenes, mouth-watering meals, and picture-perfect homes, plus a heartfelt message—the people we lose never really leave us—Golden Girl is a beach book unlike any other.”
Have a lovely, joy-filled, gentle week!

Kathi, I am so honored that you chose my essay as your favorite Substack read this week! Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I’m always grateful when my words bring joy or comfort to those of us who are, like you, aging with grace and grit. And what a great recap of the past week. Dolly, especially.❤️
Great summary! Thanks for the shout-out. 😊I watched Dolly... can’t wait to see Meg! And my favorite this week was your gift list! We need to keep that going for our kids and grandkids! Happy new month and week!
